The Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA) is a non-government organisation that works to promote the health and well-being of all Australians. The Association seeks better population health outcomes based on prevention, the social determinants of health and equity principles.
The PHAA is a national organisation comprising around 1800 individual members. The PHAA has Branches in every State and Territory and a wide range of Special Interest Groups. The Branches work with the National Office in providing policy advice, in organising professional development events and in mentoring public health professionals.
PHAA-Qld Branch details
The PHAA-Qld Branch implements national priorities and agendas within the local context. The Branch is run by volunteers and focuses on public health issues within Queensland, responding to the professional development needs of our public health professionals.
You don't need to join PHAA-QLD separately from the PHAA, if you are a PHAA member and you live in Queensland you are already a PHAA-QLD member. Find out more about Membership to PHAA-QLD. Membership of the PHAA-Qld executive committee is open to all members of PHAA who live in Queensland and is by election at our Annual General Meeting. Click here to see our current committee.
PHAA-Qld Branch and You
At any time you can become involved with the committee, in any capacity. For example, you may like to suggest events or activities for us to hold in your area, or you may be passionate about a public health issue and want your voice to be heard. Members may be involved in branch activities, advocacy, event and/or conference organisation, media campaigns, website development, even photographing events. It is a great way to meet other people in public health and find out what is going on!
We would particularly like to invite students to join the committee - some of the existing committee members joined as students and found it a great way to gain practical skills for the workforce.
The PHAA-Qld Branch holds monthly committee meetings where we discuss current issues, implementing strategies, plan upcoming events and review professional development needs. All PHAA-Qld members are welcome to attend. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for information about our upcoming meetings.
